The meeting organized by China NDI was attended by representatives of 14 countries of the Asia-Pacific region, who signed a consensus document for the creation of the Asia Pacific Network on Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (AP-NDI), an international cooperative platform of scholars, scientists, entrepreneurs and decision makers from countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The AP-NDI will help researchers and scientists who work on neglected tropical diseases to begin the study and development of new drugs, vaccines and diagnostic methods through capacity building, infrastructure development and multilateral cooperation.

The background for the IMT AvH participation in this meeting is a FEALAC (Forum for East Asia - Latin America Cooperation) network, created in 2014 by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Instituto de Medicina Tropical Alexander von Humboldt of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. This collaborative network now incorporates institutions from Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Chile and México and will study the economic impact of epidemic outbreaks of neglected infectious and tropical diseases.
