She is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) and Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Texas at Houston, USA. She is also a principal investigator IMT AvH, head of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Laboratory (LIP) and member of the Laboratory of Enteric Diseases, Nutrition and Antimicrobial Resistance (LEEN-RA). She serves as director of IMT AvH since January 2019.

Head Tuberculosis Research Unit

Physician, Specialist in Infectious and Tropical Diseases. Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) and director of the Gorgas Course of Tropical Medicine. Principal investigator of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Alexander von Humboldt (IMTAvH) and Head of the TB Unit. He has an active scientific production with more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, and is currently involved in research projects related to tuberculosis.

Biologist, Researcher of the Institute of Tropical Medicine -Alexander von Humboldt (IMTAvH), Associate Professor of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Philosophy (FACIEN), Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). She has experience in molecular and cellular biology acquired during her PhD, where she worked with Leishmania parasites (gene expression during their life cycle) at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium and at the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands. Since 2003, she has been the coordinator of the Laboratory of the Malaria Working Group of IMTAvH-FACIEN.

Jorge Arévalo, PhD

Head of Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology of Trypanosomatids

Biologist, Head of the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology of Trypanosomatids, Senior Professor of the Faculty of Sciences and Philosophy (FACIEN) of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). He investigates the relationship between the genotype of Leishmania parasite and clinical manifestations of Leishmaniasis (pathogenicity and virulence). The study of genomic polymorphism and gene expression has allowed the development of molecular tools for the diagnosis of American Tegumentary Leishmaniasis and the monitoring of chemotherapy. In recent years he has extended his interest to the search for candidates for immunoprophylactic molecules and active ingredients present in natural products, as part of an international multidisciplinary team.

Physician with a master's degree in public health, focused on control of tropical diseases and a doctorate in health sciences. Interest in epidemiological research, health systems and operations using quantitative and qualitative methods in tuberculosis, HIV, maternal and child health and other public health problems. Experience in Peru, Uganda, Liberia, Lesotho and Botswana. Assistant professor of the Academic Department of Medical Clinics of the Faculty of Medicine Alberto Hurtado, UPCH. Researcher of the Tuberculosis Unit of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Alexander von Humboldt, UPCH and of the Center for Research in Maternal and Child Health MAMAWAWA, UPCH.

Physician, Specialist in Infectology and Internal Medicine. Master in Medicine Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH, Peru). He directs several projects with international support that allow investigating dozens of young students. He was the first Peruvian to be President of the International Society of Infectious Diseases. He is an assistant professor at the William J. Harrington Training Programs for Latin American at the University of Miami; of the International Department of Health of the Johns Hopkins University and of the Department of Medicine of the University of Alabama in Birmingham, USA. He has more than 400 scientific articles published, more than 40 chapters of books of international diffusion, 2 books and 6 manuals.

Physician, specialist in Infectious and Tropical Diseases with emphasis on vector-borne diseases, Master in Tropical Medina, Internal Medicine, Doctor of Medicine, PhD in epidemiology. He has created research groups in leishmaniasis and malaria at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Alexander von Humboldt, UPCH, as well as, the creation of the School of Public Health and Administration at the UPCH. Experience of more than 25 years in the planning, direction, execution, monitoring and evaluation of projects, investigations and interventions. It includes aspects related to access, simplified methods, and quality in the diagnosis of leishmaniasis and malaria, clinical studies on new alternatives for the treatment in rural conditions of leishmaniasis and malaria. Skills in epidemiological techniques and statistical analysis tools. Also skills technical documents writing, training modules and scientific articles in health services, health situation and evaluation of public health interventions.

Author or co-author of 95 publications in journals, 34 national, 61 international.

Physician graduated from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), holds the academic degrees of Masters and Doctorate in Medicine from the UPCH. He is a specialist in Infectious and Tropical Diseases and Dermatology. He is an attending physician of the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital, member of 12 National and International Medical Societies, has published 110 scientific articles and has written two Books. Among its main scientific contributions are those made in the Carrión disease, other contributions are in the study of poisonous animals, Toxocariosis, Blastocystosis, Carbunco, History of medicine, etc.
